Rolex’s most buzzed-about new release at Baselworld 2015 was the Rolex Day-Date 40, a larger version of the classic 36-mm Day-Date with an all-new movement. However, fans of the original Day-Date still have plenty of options at the more modest size, including the five recently launched models we showcase below, all with 18k yellow gold, 18k white gold, or 18k Everose gold cases and available in several colorful dial-strap combos.

The cases all measure 36 mm in diameter and are milled from a solid block of gold. These Rolex Day-Dates all have dials that match their leather straps and represent a veritable rainbow of colors. There are five combinations available: green and cognac dials and straps on the watches with yellow-gold cases; blue or cherry on the watches with white-gold cases; and chocolate on the watch with Everose gold case. (Everose gold is an exclusive, high-purity alloy made by Rolex that has a smattering of platinum in the mix.) There is also a more traditional version in Everose gold featuring a rhodium dial and black strap.

The cases, which measure a rather modest 36 mm in diameter, are milled from solid blocks of 18k gold and have fluted casebacks hermetically screwed down with special tools used exclusively by Rolex watchmakers. The screw-down crown is fitted with Rolex’s Twinlock double-waterproofing system. The fluted bezel surrounds a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with a Cyclops lens — a hallmark of the Rolex Day-Date — magnifying the date in the window at 3 o’clock. The dials have a sunray finish and the hands and appliqué indices are made of the same gold as the case.

These colorful Rolex Day-Dates are powered by Rolex’s manufacture Caliber 3155, an automatic movement and certified COSC chronometer. The blue Parachrom hairspring (Parachrom is another Rolex-exclusive alloy) in the movement’s oscillator is built to resist the influence of magnetic fields and withstand extreme temperature variations. According to Rolex, this type of hairspring is also 10 times more shock-resistant than the traditional type. Among the movement’s other attributes are a large balance wheel with variable inertia, a Breguet overcoil, a stop-seconds function for precise time-setting, and a power reserve of around 48 hours.

The colorful straps, which create a monochromatic look paired with their matching dials, are of alligator leather and have 18k gold folding clasps outfitted with Rolex’s Crownclasp system, which allows easy adjustment of the strap length. Prices on the five Rolex Day-Dates range from $23,000 to $25,000.
