Additionally, the 913 includes a glucydur equilibrium wheel with gold micrometric regulating screws, which makes it adjustable and also more shock-resistant than its predecessor. There’s also a better winding system which uses a ball-bearing mounted rotor. The sapphire case back shows the rotor, which is reddish gold with a snailed bevel, glistening chamfers and straight and circular Côtes de Genève patterns. It has a 40-hour power reserve. At 29.2mm, the Blancpain Ocean Commitment Villeret Date Moonphase is a very small watch considering there’s a moon phase and a date and a seconds hand, a rare advantage in a small women’ automatic. It’s proof of Blancpain’s commitment to producing size-appropriate high-grade calibers devoted to ladies’ watches in its elite collections. The date is elegantly spaced out only inside the hour track, indicated by a red-tipped pointer. The bezel is set with 48 diamonds and there are eight diamond indexes in addition to four employed Roman numerals from the signature Villeret font. Even as purveyors of possibly among the world’s first truly purpose-built dive watches, there is no denying it’s been a very long time since Blancpain has even been remotely close to the tool watch kingdom it once initiated. That being said, it is still neat to see the brand revisit those days with a marked degree of panache in the recently declared Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Mil-Spec — a watch that might cost $14,000, but it is still every bit the capable tool once relied upon by combat divers from the late fifties.
The Bathyscaphe Flyback Chronograph Blancpain Youtube Ocean Commitment II (BOC II) is entirely in blue ceramic, with the case, bezel, back, crown and pushers made of the scratch-resistant material.
Part of the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe range introduced as Blancpain’s entry-level dive watch, the BOC II chronograph is 43.6mm in diameter. A first for Blancpain, the ceramic case is a dark, matte blue.
It starts with blue pigment being added to the ceramic material that is formed into the watch case via sintering, a process of heating and compacting the ceramic powder or granules into the case parts.
The blue ceramic case contains the calibre F385 movement that’s automatic and high frequency, running at 36,000 beats per hour. It also boasts the bells and whistles typical of higher end Blancpain movements: adjustable mass balance wheel, silicon hairspring, as well as a column wheel and vertical clutch for the chronograph.
And the calibre F385 is also a flyback chronograph, meaning the stopwatch can be stopped and then instantaneously reset and restarted with one button.
