Breitling actually debuted these new Superocean Heritage hands on the dial of this the quirky limited variant Breitling Watches Women’s Superocean Heritage Chronoworks at 2016 (hands-on here). The hour hand arrow includes a line which bisects it (seemingly for no purpose as the palms are already identifying looking), and now the second hand rather radically tapers. Again, this can be more in accordance with the expression of the actual legacy Superocean watch, but I think that the contemporary Superocean Heritage I did the palms a bit better. Not only were the outgoing hands easier on the eyes concerning simplicity, but I felt that they were more proportionate to the overall appearance of the dial. Now the minute hand seems just a bit too skinny the majority of the time except at the tip – along with the strange angles at the bottom of the arrow hour hand eliminate from the original’s strength and temperament. The new hands are definitely more distinctive, and it is entirely possible that they’ll grow on me, but at first glance, this is the one part of the Superocean Heritage that I thought was a bit better on the very first generation model.The lack of a steel ring around the inner part of this rotating bezel further makes the Superocean Heritage II look different from the initial version. This isn’t an improvement or update, so much as it’s a new style for the modern classic classic in contemporary vintage-style sports watches. The lack of an interior steel ring means the color from the bezel can blend in with the dial a little more easily, which makes the maximum effect on the black-dialed versions of this Superocean Heritage II.
After the success of last year’s Breitling Avenger Hurricane, this year at Baselworld 2017, Breitling released a new iteration of this watch with ‘khaki’ colored lume on its numerals and fitted with an olive green military looking fabric strap. The new Breitling Avenger Hurricane Military Breitlight is a huge watch with a 50 mm diameter case and very unique looking due to the unique sheen on its polymer composite case construction that is ultra-sturdy and ultra-light made in a futuristic material named Breitlight. This material exclusive to Breitling is 3.3 times lighter than titanium and 5.8 times lighter than steel; however, it is significantly harder.
Things you Need to Know
The dial is a highly legible Black Volcano dial enhanced with luminescent hands and numerals, a thick sapphire crystal glareproofed on both sides and pushers and crown fitted with a non-slip knurled grip ensuring optimal handling even with gloves. The dial has just the right amount of khaki and yellow to make it look like you are part of a Spec-Ops mission.
Water-resistant to 100 m/330 ft and featuring a rotating bezel with rider tabs serving to memorize times, this new Breitling Avenger Hurricane Military Breitlight is bold and ready to take on any challenge on land, at sea and in the air.
Extreme comfort, procured by an exclusive strap combining black rubber core and sides with a high-resistance black Military textile fiber exterior in olive green. The strap is fitted with a matching black DLC treated titanium deployant buckle.
The beating heart inside the new Breitling Avenger Hurricane Military Breitlight is the manufacture automatic Breitling calibre B12 with 47 jewels and a power reserve of 70 hours. The movement is protected by a solid case back also in Breitlight. The new Breitling Avenger Hurricane Military is COSC —Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute— just like its predecessor.
On the Wrist & Price
On the wrist, the Breitling Avenger Hurricane Military Breitlight wears really big but quite comfortable. Thanks to the lightness of its Breitlight case, the watch seems to wear more like a 47-48 mm piece on a 7.5″ wrist. One thing that we do have to point out is that the watch wears extremely high on the wrist making it completely impossible to tuck it under your shirt cuff. Sporty, rugged and very military looking is this new iteration of the Avenger Hurricane. If you like to look like a Navy SEAL or a Green Beret when it comes to your watches, this is the way to go. This watch is available in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces.
