Booba and Corum are presenting not one, not two, but three Bubblesque models in several different versions. The dial of the first model features the cover of the rapper’s eighth album, Nero Nemesis, released in 2015.
For the other two models, Corum Watches Qatar chose to call on the talent and creativity of the students of the La Chaux-de-Fonds School of Applied Arts (EAA). A writing in perfect harmony with the rapper, resulting of a collaboration between Booba, the EAA and Polish designer Kamil Borowski, is featured on the first of these models. The second model shows a skull under the word “Kopp”, the rapper’s nickname.
The Corum Bubble 47 Flying Tourbillon watch includes a 47mm 18k rose gold case, and further accentuating its size is its own large bubble-shaped crown, also made from 18k rose gold. And as a result of the domed sapphire crystal, thickness is a whopping 18.55mm. Clearly, the Corum Bubble 47 Flying Tourbillon isn’t any small watch, and it is likely to draw lots of attention. If wrist presence is exactly what you seek, this watch will send it in spades. Regrettably, regardless of the watch’s little dimensions, water resistance is 30 meters, so be skeptical of liquids.The Bubble watch is so known due to its large domed sapphire crystal, and it isn’t necessarily only a gimmick. Most watches have horizontal sapphire crystals using anti-reflective coating since they wish to avoid distortion. For Corum’s Bubble watch, the opposite is true since the distortion that is caused by its big domed sapphire crystal is what creates the Corum Bubble unique. The large hollowed and empty eyes along with the charcoal black dial along with also the warmth from domed crystal makes a gothic look that’s seldom seen in different watches. Completing the creepy effect is the flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock, which can be framed from the mouth of this skull.Speaking of that, the skull in the Corum Bubble 47 Tourbillon reminds me of the skull of Marvel Comics’ Punisher. And to me, it’s character, with more menacing and appealing looks than, say, the skull designs employed by HYT in their Skull Bad Boy watch or from Bell & Ross within their BR01 Burning Skull “Tattoo” watch (hands-on here).Though legibility may be somewhat influenced by the distortions brought about by the heavily compacted crystal, Corum addresses that by providing the Bubble 47 Flying Tourbillon big leaf-shaped palms painted with white Super-LumiNova.
Symbols of their time, Booba and the Bubble have constantly moved forward and dared to assert their creative differences. By uniting an audience from seemingly different generations, origins and backgrounds, they have become standard-bearers for a new vision of the future by taking possession of it.
