Last week, Piaget surprised patrons across the globe with the unveiling of its new, unusual all-steel timepiece collection called the Piaget Polo S. The watches in the new range, based on the Swiss watchmaker’s iconic Polo watch introduced in 1979, are touted as ‘game changers’ and targeted towards the new generation.

Steel-based watches aren’t as novel; but what surprised us is the opening price point of these timepieces, starting from $9,350 going up to $12,400. Equipped with the brand’s in-house automatic movements, these sports watches are designed for young, playful customers who need a timepiece that is casual yet versatile.

Stainless steel watches were a common trend back in the late seventies and early eighties, but Piaget gave them a new dimension with a sleek yet solid look. Thereafter, a trend was created and several other watchmakers imitated it.

The Polo S collection comprises both three-hand automatic watches (that indicate date and are powered by the watchmaker’s 1110Pmovement) and chronographs (powered by its in-house 1160P movement). One can catch a glimpse of the movement through the sapphire caseback used to design these sports timepieces. The automatic versions come in three colour options, including blue, silver and slate-grey; while the chronographs come with two dial options, silver and blue. Each watch in the Polo S range features a 42mm case.

And if you are still wondering why you must invest in this Piaget timepiece, here’s a more solid reason. This is the first timepiece Piaget’s new brand ambassador—the dapper Ryan Reynolds—was seen sporting.
